Move over, Old Yeller… we may have found a new definitive film about man and his best friend. And it’s only about seven minutes long.
Denali uses superb videography and an engaging, original storytelling structure to grab you without letting go from start to finish. It’s the tale of photographer Ben Moon and his longtime faithful canine companion, Denali, who’s down to his final hours. Moon himself knows how fragile life can be, suffering through a bout with cancer 10 years ago; one which Denali was there for every step of the way. Moon rescued the pit bull-husky mix from a shelter in 1999, and it seems the dog did the same for his owner. A winner of both the Best of Festival and People’s Choice awards at the 5Point Film Festival, it’s a job well-done by Moon, director Ben Knight, and of course, Denali.
